Full Vehicle Simulations for EMC, EMI, and E3 of Structures and Cables

Topic:

Full Vehicle Simulations for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) of Structures and Cables

Presenter:

Megan Maguire, EMA Senior Scientist

Abstract:

Having the ability to model and simulate a full vehicle in a given electromagnetic environment is critical throughout the design cycle of the platform. Ansys EMC Plus is a platform level simulation and modeling tool that specializes in modeling the coupling of the electromagnetic environment to structures and cables. Ansys EMC Plus allows users to model at high fidelity the important electromagnetic properties and parameters associated with their platform.

Simulating full vehicle models is vital to the aerospace, heavy and automotive industries. Introducing this type of modeling early in the design process can help reduce testing costs at the end of a platforms design cycle. Validating simulation results is also critical and EMA has been involved with several publications that validate Ansys EMC Plus against test results.

This course will focus on how to construct a full vehicle model for E3 and EMC/EMI simulations starting from the mechanical CAD. Course attendees will learn how to specify materials properties, define the electromagnetic environment, construct complex cable harnesses, define important seam and joints, how to assign probes and process data, and learn advanced modeling techniques that help expedite the modeling process.
