Ansys EMC Plus

Ansys EMC Plus (formerly EMA3D® Cable)

Ansys EMC Plus (formerly EMA3D® Cable) is a 3D Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) solver with an integrated multi-conductor transmission line solver. The two electromagnetic solvers co-simulate to allow for a complex cable harness to be accurately modeled inside complex geometry, such as an electronic device, a piece of machinery, an automobile or an aircraft.  Ansys EMC Plus has been validated on several high-profile aerospace platforms and the results were published at major conferences.

Ansys EMC Plus has an advanced CAD preprocessor and GUI engine. The user never has to leave the environment for CAD development, property assignment or post processing. Meshing in Ansys EMC Plus is fast and never fails, even with imperfections in the CAD geometry. Ansys EMC Plus allows the user to quickly define the contents of the cable with a few clicks of the mouse. The simulation workflows are easy to learn and intuitive to the user. These combined features greatly reduce the analyst time to develop and simulate Ansys EMC Plus models.

Ansys EMC Plus is well-suited for simulations addressing electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF), and lightning requirements early in the program before physical prototypes are complete. Users can specify realistic system signals as a source on cables or shields. The source may also be at the platform or environment level.

Using Ansys EMC Plus, customers can analyze:

  • Radiated coupling to cables
  • Radiated emissions from cables
  • Coupling through shields
  • EMI cross-talk between cables
  • Current return network optimization
  • Coupling from static discharges
  • Cable signal integrity
  • Lightning coupling to equipment interfaces
  • HIRF fields and cable coupling
  • Thin material algorithm with Magnetic Materials
  • Frequency-dependent material properties
  • FDTD sub-grid modeling
  • FDTD with solid bodies

Ansys EMC Plus’ FDTD approach is the only EM tool capable of capturing the detail of highly complex platforms such as entire aerospace, automotive, ship or energy systems down to individual electronics interfaces in a computationally accessible manner.

Ansys EMC Plus 2024 R1

Featured Updates:

  • Simulation is faster thanks to GPU acceleration. Benchmarks show GPUs simulate four times faster than using a multi-core CPU alone. Scaling on multiple GPUs and more performant GPU hardware shows additional speed improvement.
  • Better communicate product performance with new 3D field and current visualization capabilities. The feature quickly and easily visualizes quantities such as electric fields, magnetic fields, and electric current in 3D and gives users the ability to change which part of the 3D space is visible.
  • A transfer impedance simulator has been added to better predict the transfer impedance of a braided shield. This is an automatic workflow with the software creating the appropriate domain, source, and probe definitions.
  • Users can now automatically assign cable wire connectivity data to 3D cables from mechanical CAD. This helps to make full vehicle simulation easier.

Additional Updates:

  • Non-circular multiconductor transmission line conductor cross sections
  • Direct mesh editing features
  • Radiation pattern probe
  • Auto-alignment of 3D mesh edges to geometry
  • PCB geometry import improvement
  • Standalone transient circuit solver
  • STK and EMC Plus lightning probability tool
  • Specific absorption rate modeling

Ansys EMC Plus 2023 R2

Featured Updates:

  • EMC Plus can import PCB files from the Ansys Electronics Database (EDB) format, automatically assign the linear components including resistors, capacitors, and inductors, and automatically assign the electromagnetic material properties.
  • A new variable grid mesh engine allows for smaller mesh sizes in some locations to resolve tiny features and larger mesh sizes in areas without such features to allow for faster computation.

Additional Updates:

  • Cable harness updates including:
    • Signal identification and auto join connections
    • Bulk terminations
    • Harness search
    • Subharness grouping

Ansys EMC Plus 2023 R1

Featured Updates:

  • New automatic workflows enable full-device and full-vehicle simulation with automatic material assignment from Ansys Granta, automatic meshing, and automatic post-processing with standard EMC limit curves.
  • The new EMA3D® API and interoperability features allow for efficient use with Ansys optiSLang, Ansys ModelCenter, or a user Python script. This feature allows 3D geometry and cables to be programmatically adjusted and the simulation re-run many times without user interaction.
  • New tools to easily work with multiple cable harnesses that allow for automatic import of additional cable database formats, automatic joining of different harnesses at connectors, and the rapid assignment of cable termination circuit elements.
