HIRF & Lightning Certification for VTOL Airtaxi Webinar
With Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) air taxis, the engineering community is once again called to support an emerging technology that could have an amazing impact on the way people and goods are transported allowing for safer and more environmentally friendly urban mobility.
There are a number of technical challenges that need to be tackled and solved.

- Hybrid and fully electric propulsion systems

Further, as with any new air vehicle, VTOL air taxis must be certified for high intensity radiated fields (HIRF) and direct and indirect effects of lightning strikes.

Giancarlo Guida, Senior Scientist, Electro Magnetic Applications Inc.
Giancarlo Guida graduated with a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Naples Federico II. His thesis was on the numerical simulation of the chaotic regime of a transmission line connected to non-linear devices.
Since 1995, he worked on electromagnetic numerical modeling supporting the main European aerospace companies in the design of antennas and arrays and in the analysis of Electromagnetic Environment Effects on complex platforms.
During his career, Giancarlo collaborated on the development and testing of full- wave methods (MoM, FDTD), high frequency methods (GO-GTD, PO-PTD, IPO) and statistical methods (PWB).
In 2018, Giancarlo joined EMA Inc. focusing his activities on the usage of numerical modelling to assist HIRF and lightning certification for aircraft.
Mr. Guida is the author of several scientific articles and has held lectures and seminars on electromagnetic compatibility and numerical simulation at Italian and other European universities.
